Many people assume they are healthy until they suffer their first heart attack. To help people get to know their heart – how it works, how to keep it healthy and how to identify personal risk factors, The Medical Center of Aurora and Community College of Aurora are teaming up to host “Know Your Heart,” a free community health fair.

Ethiopian teen Weini Haile, 16, came to Aurora a year and a half ago seeking life-saving kidney therapy. Recently, her condition worsened and she started dialysis. In her home-country she was out of options, and nearly out of time.
"The doctors in Ethiopia said, 'there is nothing we can do, her kidneys have failed and unless she leaves the country and goes to Europe or the United States, or somewhere else, there is nothing else we can do," said Millete Birhanemaskel, Haile's cousin.

When 32-year-old Claudia Ruiz-Ruiz arrived at the emergency room of the Medical Center of Aurora at 2:30 a.m. back in May, she was having extreme chest pains.
Doctors were immediately concerned about both her life and the life of her unborn baby. She was 38 weeks pregnant.

HealthONE’s The Medical Center of Aurora (TMCA) recently received the ACTION Registry-GWTG Gold Performance Achievement Award. The award recognizes hospitals that have maintained a performance rate of 85 percent or better for two years in the ACTION Registry-GWTG program.
The ACTION Registry–GWTG program empowers health care providers to improve treatment and care for cardiac patients by consistently treating heart attack patients according to the most current, science-based guidelines.

HealthONE’s The Medical Center of Aurora (TMCA) Emergency Medical Services and Trauma departments in conjunction with The American Heart Association (AHA) will host its first Community Kickball Tournament Fundraiser on Saturday, July 31, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Employees of the hospital and their families will compete with teams from Rural/Metro EMS, Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center, Rose Medical Center, Swedish Medical Center, Sky Ridge Medical Center and University of Colorado Hospital to become the kickball tournament champions.

Countries represented by these nurse leaders included Taiwan, Finland, UK, and China. Dr. Mike Rauzzino, Neurosurgeon, completed the first Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) procedure at The Medical Center of Aurora Main Campus in November/December, 2009. The surgical procedure was a coordinated effort between Dr. Rauzzion and Dr. H. Rai Kakkar, Neurologist.

The Medical Center of Aurora and Centennial Medical Plaza recently received Chest Pain Accreditation from the Society of Chest Pain Centers. The Medical Center of Aurora received full Cycle II accreditation with PCI at its South Campus and is the second hospital in the state to receive the "with PCI" accreditation. Centennial Medical Plaza received full Cycle II accreditation status and is the first and only free-standing emergency department in Colorado to receive this accreditation.
